World Day of Prayer – Friday 5th March

World Day of Prayer 2021 takes place on the first Friday in March each year, Christians around the world of many denominations and all ages gather for a service written by the women of a different country. This year, the service was written by the women of Vanuatu, but, of course, it wasn’t possible to hold the usual service in Ullapool this year. Instead, St Mary’s, who were due to host this year’s service, offered a ‘prayer tree’ to enable members of the community to participate in a way that was symbolically together yet apart. During the day, a good number of people came along to write their prayer(s) on a label and tie it on to the tree. At the end of the afternoon, the prayer tree was moved into the church and Rev’d Clare offered all the prayers again as part of Evening Prayer. The prayers were also shared with members of the participating churches.
