Joanna Wright – Ullapool Lay Representative

I live in Ullapool and have been a member of the congregation at St Mary’s for over 15 years.  The period when we couldn’t meet during the pandemic made me really appreciate the value of the church as community.

I’m a painter and I work at the Macphail Centre in Ullapool, programming their theatre and creative events, as well as at the library.

I’m currently the Lay Representative on the Diocesan Synod for St Mary’s in Ullapool.  I am also part of the small group that tries to develop our role as an eco-congregation.  Out of this came the Green Screen, which is a series of public film screenings in Ullapool with the aim of learning about the climate crisis and environmental issues from the perspective of different communities worldwide.
