The Word This Week – 21st February 2021

Dear Friends in the Northwest,

This Sunday is the first Sunday in Lent. I hope that you all received your Cross for Ash Wednesday eventually. I am sorry that some of those that were posted arrived late – I posted them on the Friday before but clearly it wasn’t soon enough, although I gather that postmarks suggested at least one came by a less than direct route!

This week, I am delighted to tell you that we have a new website for the North West Charge: www.nwcharge.org . This is the result of a great deal of hard work on the part of Fr John Green over much of the past year, having started developing it with Fr Nicholas. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to him for doing this for us. There are still a few things to add, and sections such as ‘Notices’ are lacking content at the moment for obvious reasons. You will also find the weekly readings and reflection there should you misplace the email. Please do take a look and let me know what you think – especially if you spot any mistakes. As well as being a place for us to share information, it will also be a ‘shop window’ for visitors to the area – when they can return!

Materials for the first session of the Lent course on The Beatitudes are enclosed with this newsletter. A last call for anyone who would like to participate in an online discussion. This will take place on Wednesday afternoons at 2.30 pm via Zoom. It is something of an experiment, so we shall see how it goes.

I have been notified that the Scottish Episcopal Institute are running a series of discussions on Monday evenings in Lent entitled ‘Acting Like a Christian’ led by Rev’d Dr Mike Hull. They are free but require booking through Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/acting-like-a-christian-tickets-138446831199?utm_campaign=post_publish&utm_medium=email&utm_source=eventbrite&utm_content=shortLinkNewEmail&fbclid=IwAR0Klq2BUcqzeU33y2jUIwvpHTcfwzuT9zA-sDs2IyJy9jTKfpOiNcgNGdo

Sorry about the very long link. Alternatively, you can contact Mike at dos

With love and prayers,

Rev’d Clare
